Nashville SC Head Coach BJ Callaghan, Sam Surridge, Hany Mukhtar, and Andy Najar were all named to MLS Team of the Matchday following a 7-2 win over Chicago Fire FC last weekend, the club’s largest-ever MLS margin of victory.
Sam Surridge became the first Nashville SC player and 19th player in league history to score four goals in a single match. The Englishman is joint-second in the league for most goals scored this season (6). He opened the scoring for Nashville through a PK in the 14th minute, followed by another PK conversion in first half stoppage time. Surridge slotted two more goals in the 50th and 57th minute to open the second half, assisted by Andy Najar. It's also Surridge's second hat trick in Nashville colors.
Najar was also named to MLS Team of the Matchday after recording three primary assists, a first in the Honduran's career and in Nashville SC history. Andy Najar assisted Hany Mukhtar's second goal in the first half before dropping two perfect back-to-back direct passes at Surridge's feet just outside the box to solidify Nashville's 7-goal-lead.
Hany Mukhtar's performance landed him a spot on MLS Team of the Matchday following an assist on defender Jeisson Palacios' first goal in gold and two goals of his own in the 25th and 31st minutes. It's the German attacker's first brace of the season.
BJ Callaghan gets the nod as Coach on Team of the Matchday after defeating former collegue and USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter. Saturday was the pair's first time facing off as head coaches since their respective exits from USMNT last year. BJ Callaghan spoke to media after Nashville's win; watch the press conference below.
